Lieutenant Commander Kundan Kumar of Navigation and Direction School won the prestigious Admiral GM Hiranandani Memorial Rolling Trophy.
The award was instituted for the best performance during the year-long Naval Warfare Specialisation Courses conducted by the Southern Naval Command (SNC) for officers undergoing different specialisations.
The officers were assessed by a Board of Officers from Maritime Warfare Centre (Kochi) under the aegis of its Director, Commodore NAJ Joseph, a Defence release said here today.
The trophy was presented by Vice Admiral AR Karve, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command during the ceremony held at Maritime Warfare Centre here.
Susheel Hiranandani, wife of late Vice Admiral GM Hiranandani in whose memory the award has been instituted, graced the occasion.
Manick Hiranandani, son of the late Admiral, was also present.

The Admiral GM Hiranandani Memorial Rolling Trophy was instituted in the year 2013 in memory of the late Admiral, who retired as the Vice Chief of the Navy in 1989 and had served as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command.
Book prizes were also awarded to Lieutenant Commander I Deosthalee for standing second, Lieutenant Commander NJ Prabhune and Lieutenant Commander Jayesh Chandran for standing joint third and to Lieutenant Commanders Arul Avinash, Prabhat Pankaj and SN Ubale for their commendable performance in the Oral Board (i.e. viva), the release added.
