The instruction from the Chair came during a half-an-hour discussion on "promotion of entrepreneurship and self-employment among minorities".

He said this when Mohammed Adeeb (Ind) exceeded the time allotted to him.

"Everybody knows the problems...You need not make long speeches but straightway raise questions on the issue," he told

members and even cited Parliamentary rules.

Kurien said if the members failed to adhere to his instruction he would order expunging matters other than the questions raised.

When the next speaker, Husain Dalwai (Cong) greeted the Chair before making his point, Kurien said "do not waste time in niceties... I told you to come straightway to the issue."

P Rajeeve (CPI-M) won praise of Kurien for making two brief questions to Minority Affairs Minister Salman Kurshid.
