Kumar will meet another Egyptian, Mazen Gamal, in the second qualifying round tomorrow to see who progresses further in the tournament.
However, four other Indians - Vijay Kumar, Ravi Dixit, Vikram Malhotra and Sandeep Jangra - failed to cross the first hurdle in the qualifiers for the tournament proper.
