Kush Kumar enters second qualifying round at squash meet

Kush Kumar was the lone Indian to enter the second qualifying round of the USD 35,000 CCI International JSW Indian Squash Circuit that got under way at the Cricket Club of India here today.
Kumar was leading his Egyptian rival Shehab Essam 2-0 and 9-4 in the third set when the latter retired from the contest after getting injured, to hand over to the Indian an entry into the second qualifying round.
Kumar will meet another Egyptian, Mazen Gamal, in the second qualifying round tomorrow to see who progresses further in the tournament.
However, four other Indians - Vijay Kumar, Ravi Dixit, Vikram Malhotra and Sandeep Jangra - failed to cross the first hurdle in the qualifiers for the tournament proper.

Mazen Gamal (EGY) beat Peter Creed (WAL) 13-11, 11-6, 3-11, 11-7; Kush Kumar (IND) beat Shehab Essam (EGY) 11-9, 11-8, 9-4 (Essam retired injured).
