Top seeded Kumar was classy with his touch, which had made him the first Indian male player to reach the quarterfinal in the recently-held World Junior Championship in Namibia.
But Lakshya had to dig deep into her reserves to ensure victory. While Kumar disposed off promising Ranvijay Singh Ranvijay Singh 11-9 11-9 11-6, Lakshya managed to get the better of Malaysian Aika Azman in the five-game final 11-8 6-11 11-6 6-11 11-9.
