With the increasing demand of khadi products, Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has set a target of hiking its market share to 5 per cent in the next two-three years from 1 per cent currently.
KVIC currently handles a business turnover of about Rs 30,000 crore, its CEO Arun Kumar Jha said.
"With demand of KVIC products on gradual increasing trajectory and the government's supportive policies towards promotion of khadi products within and outside India, the Commission has set a target of hiking its market share to a level of 5 per cent in next 2-3 years," Jha was quoted as saying in a statement by industry body PHDCCI.
Jha was addressing the 'Startup Summit-2016' under the aegis of PHDCCI.
He said KVIC is presently grappling with problems on the supply side, and not the demand side.
It is one of the reasons that KVIC has been concentrating on its production facilities across the country through the help of all its supply chain agencies, he added.
"KVIC, which falls under the jurisdiction of Ministry of MSME, is also at the advanced stage for finalising incentives and sops for startups in the MSME segment...," said Jha, adding that the government is likely to notify these from April 2016.
