L&T shares up over 2% as Q2 profit zooms

Shares of engineering major Larsen & Toubro (L&T) today rose by over 2 per cent after the company reported an 84 per cent jump in net profit for the September quarter.
The stock gained 2.16 per cent to close at Rs 1,357.85 on BSE. Intra-day, it rose by 4.16 per cent to Rs 1,384.55.
On NSE, shares of the company went up by 2 per cent to settle at Rs 1,357.25.
On the volume front, 2.82 lakh shares of the company were traded on BSE and over 49 lakh shares changed hands at NSE during the day.
Engineering major Larsen & Toubro (L&T) had yesterday reported an 84 per cent jump in net profit at Rs 1,435 crore for the September quarter, backed by exceptional gains of Rs 400 crore that included income from sale of its insurance business.
The firm had clocked a net profit of Rs 778.37 crore in the corresponding period a year ago.
Total consolidated income of the company rose 8 per cent to Rs 25,010.70 crore in July-September this fiscal, from Rs 23,123.48 crore during the same quarter last year.
Its total expenses rose to Rs 23,173.16 crore from Rs 21,521.06 crore in the year-ago period.
