The conference comes at a time when the violent incidents in Maruti's Manesar plant are still fresh in people's mind.

The Labour Ministry has already appealed to concerned parties for maintaining continuous dialogue process between employers and workers to ensure zero-violence.

Labour Minister Mallikarjun Kharge had also written to all state labour ministers to ensure necessary follow up action for proper implementation of labour laws, the actions of which would be deliberated upon at the conference.

The conference can also evolve suggestions for reducing inter-state disparities in minimum wages as the disparities have not been solved despite efforts.

A Labour Ministry official said the issue of uniform wage was recently taken up by the members of the Consultative Committee attached to the Ministry and also raised it in the 44th Indian Labour Conference.

Employee representatives have demanded that minimum wages should be increased to Rs 10,000 per month for any employment and be applicable throughout the country.

They also demanded that minimum wages should be fixed by the Central government and applicable in all states.

Despite persistent efforts by the Centre, various state governments have "lagged in revising the minimum wages on a regular basis, set aside the uniform wages," the official said.

He said the difference in paying capacity has not always been a reason for wide difference in minimum wages across the states.
