A 29-year-old labourer has suffered serious burn injuries in Vasai town in the district after his female co-worker allegedly set him ablaze following an argument, police said on Wednesday.
According to police, the victim, identified as Sugriv Bhau Chavan, is battling for life at a hospital in suburban Kandivali.
The incident took place on Monday at the accused woman Shital Dalvi's house in Vasai. Both of them reside in the same locality.
"On March 11, they were consuming liquor at Dalvi's house. Soon an argument broke out between them and in a fit of rage, the woman poured kerosene on Chavan and set him ablaze. He suffered serious burn injuries in the incident and was rushed to a hospital," Palghar police spokesperson Hemant Katkar said.
The woman has been booked under IPC sections 307 (attempt to murder), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation), police said, adding that she was yet to be arrested.
The case has been registered with Valiv police station and further investigation is on.
