Lack of sufficient public prosecutors is hampering quick disposal of cases despite 47 new courts being set up in the national capital and putting excessive burden on government lawyers.
Special Public Prosecutor A T Ansari of the fast-track court at Saket Court Complex while expressing his view over less numbers of additional public prosecutors said, "We are not able to concentrate on every cases properly."
He was responding to a question about Delhi Law Minister Somnath Bharti speaking about addressing the issue of paucity of public prosecutors last week.
"Our department (prosecution) has asked us to attend two courts at one time. We (prosecutors) are not able to reach there on time as the concerned judges do not allow us to go," Ansari said, while endorsing Bharti's view that the issue has to addressed immediately.
He further said that "in case we reach to the next court room on time, we do not get much time to go through the files.
"The cases before sessions court are mainly of criminal and civil in nature. Most of them are very important, so how can we deal with such case, until unless we do not get time to understand the background of the file," he added.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had recently requested the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court to appoint 100 more judges in the six district courts complexes here, for improving the justice delivery system in the city.
The new courts, which started functioning from January 15, are mainly dealing with civil, criminal and motor accident cases.
