A lacklustre India failed to match the showing of the previous edition by finishing fourth in their pool in the WSF Women's World Team Squash Championship here.
Indian women, led by Joshana Chinappa in the absence of top player Dipika Pallikal, posted their first win of the competition against Austria 3-0 before going down to South Africa 1-2 in Pool D yesterday. The team now plays hosts Canada in 9-16 classification matches.
India had made a rare quarterfinal appearance in the 2012 edition, losing to eventual champions Egypt in the last eight stage.
World No.16 Pallikal's absence has proved the team costly. The highest-ranked Indian skipped the event to prepare for the World Open in Cairo from December 15.
In other matches, fourth seeds Hong Kong China pipped France, the fifth seeds, 2/1 to secure top position in Pool D of the biennial event.
