"It has emerged that a gang of four men had carried out the loot as they wanted to earn quick money to make good the losses they had incurred in gambling and IPL betting. We have recovered Rs 32 lakh from the two accused while efforts are on to nab their remaining two associates,"said Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav.
The two accused, identified as Roop Singh alias Vicky (30) and Vinod alias Lala (32), were arrested by the Crime Branch yesterday. Recoveries of Rs 12.5 lakh and Rs 19.5 lakh have been made from them, police said.
This incident of robbery committed in a very crowded market had created panic among businessmen in the area and they had gone on a strike demanding early arrest of the criminals.
Several teams of Crime Branch were looking into the case. Following a tip-off yesterday, a trap was laid in Nand Nagri area and the duo were nabbed.
Efforts are on to nab the remaining accused in the case and to recover the remaining amount of money.
