Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi is likely to be released from jail, with Islamabad High Court (IHC) today suspending the notification detaining him under a public security order after he was granted bail by a court in the 26/11 case.
The suspension orders were issued by Justice Noor ul Haq Qureshi.
Islamabad Anti-Terrorism Court Judge had on December 18 granted bail to Lakhvi in the Mumbai attack case, citing lack of evidence against him. But before he could be released from jail, the government detained him for three more months under Maintenance of Public Order (MPO).
Lakhvi challenged his detention under MPO in the Islamabad High Court after the government rejected his plea for release.
Lakhvi and six other accused - Abdul Wajid, Mazhar Iqbal, Hamad Amin Sadiq, Shahid Jameel Riaz, Jamil Ahmed and Younis Anjum -- have been charged with planning and executing the Mumbai attacks that took place on November 26, 2008, and left 166 people dead. The trial has been underway since 2009.
He is facing the charges of imparting training and giving instructions to the 10 terrorists who carried out the attacks in India's financial capital.
