West Bengal Industry minister Partha Chatterjee today termed Trinamool Congress MP Saugata Roy's statement on paucity of land as a personal opinion and said it was not a problem for setting up industries in the state.
Roy had yesterday said the state needs to focus on medium and small scale industries industries due to paucity of land for heavy industries.
"This is his (Roy's) personal opinion. I am again saying that land is not an issue in setting up of industry in our state. If anyone is having any problem (in setting up of industry) in our state, then they can come to us. We will solve it. I would again request you not to create any kind of controversy regarding it," Chatterjee said when asked to comment on Roy's statement.
"In the context of less availability of land for industries (heavy industries), the government's intention is to focus on development of medium and small scale industries and enterprises," Roy had said at a seminar of a chamber of commerce here.
Few days ago, Roy had reportedly quit as adviser to the state government's commerce, industries and IT department, over alleged differences with Banerjee over land and industrial policy of the state.
He had last month stated that the possibility of setting up large industries in the state was 'very bleak' and the future of West Bengal depended on small and medium-scale industries.
