Military spokesman Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasuriya said since the end to the conflict in 2009, a large number of disappearances and murders of individuals had been falsely attributed to the government.
He was referring to the reported arrest of Kathirvel Thayapararajah, 33, by Indian authorities on May 5. He is believed to have disappeared during the military campaign.
"If the (foreign) governments can help us, we will be able to prove that the dead and the disappeared are among the living," he said.
Sri Lankan officials say that Thayapararajah was among those who had been listed as missing after he was arrested by security forces.
Sri Lankan authorities suspect a nexus between the human smuggling operators and the LTTE remnants to discredit the country internationally.
Sri Lanka has faced three consecutive UN Human Rights Council resolutions which alleged large human rights abuses including disappearances of individuals.
