Rejecting reports of "internal disputes" in the party, Sri Lanka President Maithripala Sirisena today said his government was completely stable and could not be toppled.
Addressing the heads of media institutions here, Sirisena said the group supporting former president Mahinda Rajapaksa was less than 50 in the 225-member assembly.
"So they need more than 60 more to cross the 113 mark. Without my blessings they would not be able to do anything", Sirisena said.
He charged that the Rajapaksa group was bringing pressure on the investigators who were probing graft claims against the former president and his family members.
He also alleged that Rajapaksa had opted to have a snap presidential election two years before schedule as he was short of ideas on how to face the UN Human Rights Council which was conducting a probe on the alleged human rights violation during the last stage of battle against the LTTE in 2009.
Sirisena's Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) which is in the unity government and also in the opposition is facing a split with Rajapaksa group organising a separate May Day rally.
"There is no internal disputes in the party. It is only a battle between the corrupt and the rogues and those who are decent," Sirisena said.
