The seizure was made on the basis of leads provided by the secretary of Jharkhand-Bengal-Odisha Border Regional Committee of CPI (Maoists), Kanhu Munda, who along with six members of his squad had surrendered before the police on Wednesday last.
Addressing a press conference here, Senior Superintendent of Police Anoop T Mathew said the security personnel launched a massive search operation today on the basis of lead provided by the surrendered top rank Maoists leader of East Singhbhum district on Wednesday and recovered five rifles (one SLR, three .303 Rifles and one Insas rifle) looted from the police in the past were recovered from the Gorabandha police station limits.
Referring the joint operation launched by the district armed police and CRPF for last three months, Mathew said while a 'second-in-command' of the outfit in the district Supai Tudu, a 'sub-zonal commander', was gunned down on January three last, three naxals including Supai's wife Sonali Tudu had been arrested and seven Maoists led by Kanhu Munda surrendered on Wednesday last.
