Last rites of 2 armymen killed in avalanche performed in Leh

Last rites of the two jawans of Ladakh Scouts, who were killed in a snow avalanche at Siachen glacier, were performed today at their respective native villages in Leh district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Four jawans of the Ladakh scouts had lost their lives when their patrol party got buried under a massive snow avalanche in the Siachen glacier on January 3.
"The mortal remains of brave martyrs Havaldar Tsewang Norboo and Sepoy Jigmat Chosdup of Ladakh Scouts were laid to rest at their native villages Lakjung and Nimu in Leh today with full military honours," a defence spokesman said.
Both the soldiers made the supreme sacrifice along with other two jawans -- Sepoy Mohd Youssouf and Havaldar Dorjay Gyaltson, he added.
Sepoy Youssouf was laid to rest in his village Aihampur in Kargil on January 6 with full military honours.
"The funeral of Havaldar Dorjay Gyaltson will take place on January 11 at his native village Taingyar on Agam axis in Nubra area," the spokesperson said, adding, all four soldiers were exceptional mountaineers with very high-level of fitness.

"They had successfully undertaken a number of difficult and risky missions like route opening, route marking, launching of ladders across crevasses in the frozen frontiers of Siachen Glacier on numerous occasions," he said.
They were well-trained and fully aware of the risky mission at hand, the spokesperson said, adding that the four soldiers took the challenge of undertaking the daunting task in the unpredictable Siachen Glacier head on.
"The entire military fraternity stands with the bereaved families in this hour of grief," he said.
