The Kishtwar-based Rashtriya Rifles Battalion conducted the final rites ceremony of the jawan who belonged to 175 Engineer Regiment, a defence spokesperson said.
"Kishori Lal Rathore laid down his life on Saturday while carrying out the resuscitation of the anti-infiltration obstacle system in Macchal Sector in the Kashmir valley," the spokesman said.
Rathore is survived by his parents and four sisters.
His mortal remains were transported from Srinagar to Kishtwar by an army helicopter yesterday and then taken by road to his native village of Dhar.

The Army issued a statement later saying the 24-year-old jawan was posted in Daraba in the Poonch Sector and was found dead at his residence in the early hours.
"An inquiry into the matter has been instituted by the Army. The Police authorities have also been informed and have commenced investigation in the case," a defence spokesperson said.
The deceased was from Punjab and is survived by his wife and daughter, he said, adding the family has been informed.
