A life-size bronze statue of former DMK Minister Veerapandi S Arumugam was unveiled here today amid a war of words between officials and party workers.
The former minister had passed away last year.
Sources said the Municipal Commissioner had refused permission for the statue, but DMK had moved the High Court and got the stay vacated.
The city Police Commissioner today sent a letter through Assistant Police Commissioner stating that the statue should not be unveiled as police had not received the court order.
The notice in this regard was pasted on the door of the party office here as the DMK secretary was away to receive their leader M K Stalin in Namakkal.
Meanwhile a lawyer reportedly sent a fax to police, stating that a defamation case would be filed if the court order was violated.
