Former Himachal Chief Minister P Dhumal today expressed serious concern over "rising crime" graph in the state and said that it is a matter of shame that the state is trailing in development but the crime rate on the contrary is "going up."
Terming suicide by two girls in Shimla and Kangra as shocking, he said these incidents are a "blot" on the face of Himachal Pradesh. He added that due to failure of the government to maintain law and order, the state is languishing at 20th place in cognisable crime.
Alleging that protection to anti-social elements and criminals was the main cause of deterioration in law and order situation, Dhumal said that there has been a "significant increase" in crimes especially thefts, dacoity, ATM loot.
He said during 2015 alone 113 cases of murder, 327 cases of abduction, 244 cases of rape, 226 cases of atrocities against women and 443 cases of molestation have been registered in addition to the unreported cases which is way too much higher.
