Law to help senior citizens in evicting property from

Legal heirs of senior citizens in unauthorised occupation of their property can now be sent eviction notices as per a new law enacted by the Punjab government.
As per the 'Punjab Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Rules-2012' enforced by Punjab government, eviction notices will be sent to a son or daughter or legal heir of senior citizens who were in unauthorised occupation of any property, an official spokesman said today.
Complaints received in this regard would be forwarded to district magistrate of concerned district for further action.
The District Magistrate would immediately forward such complaints to concerned Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) for verification of title of the property and facts of the case through revenue department or tehsildars within 15 days of receipt of complaint, he said.
The SDM would then submit the report to District Magistrate within 21 days from the receipt of complaint.
The spokesman said that the DM would issue show cause notice in writing to the concerned persons that why an order of eviction should not be issued against them.
If the magistrate is satisfied that property is in unauthorised occupation, the DM or any authorised officer would make an order of eviction for reasons to be recorded therein that property shall be vacated on such date, not later than 45 days from the date of receipt of such order, he said.
All DMs have been issued directions to submit monthly report of such cases.
