"The proposal to form a River Protection Authority mooted by T N Prathapan (Cong), who took up the issue, to co-ordinate various government departments to protect rivers will also be considered," he said replying to the calling attention in the state assembly.
Chandy said the water levels in most of the 44 rivers in the state have come down drastically due to various reasons.
However, the main threat faced by rivers in Kerala is uncontrolled river sand mining, he added.
