Lawyers in district courts here abstained from judicial work today, protesting against the reported assault on them during a clash with the police at Rohini Courts complex two days ago.
The coordination committee of all district court bar associations called for the strike, and during the day, the office-bearers of the six courts held meeting with senior police officers on the issue.
"We met senior officers at the police headquarters and action has been initiated against the chowki incharge of Rohini Court complex. A committee has been formed and its members, including a senior advocate, would file a report on it," advocate Mahesh Sharma, spokesperson of the co-ordination committee and President of Shahdara Bar Association, said.
He said that the strike was successful in all the six district courts -- Tis Hazari, Patiala House, Karkardooma, Rohini, Saket and Dwarka.
Sharma claimed that to shield themselves after the incident, the policemen got a complaint registered through a woman officer and "wrongly" invoked the provision of outraging modesty of a woman, along with other sections.
A clash broke out between lawyers and police personnel at Rohini court complex on August 3 after the security staff allegedly abused and assaulted 28-year-old lawyer Gaurav Suneja, who was in civil clothes and was stopped from entering the court premises.
