Lawyers abstain from work protesting shifting of family courts
Press Trust of India New Delhi The litigants today faced a tough time as lawyers abstained from work for the second consecutive day in Karkardooma district courts complex protesting the shifting of Family Courts outside the district court premises.
Shahdara Bar Association said the strike would continue till shifting back of Family Courts from the new building in Vishwas Nagar in East Delhi to Karkardooma courts complex.
Judicial work was hampered and litigants faced a lot of difficulties as advocates were not appearing in the cases.
"It is also observed that in every district courts in Delhi, the Family Courts are operating from the court complex itself.
"It will not be helpful for members of the bar to conduct the cases at such a distance from the court complex and it will be a big problem for litigants also to travel to such a far off place. It would be difficult for litigants to find out the new building of the Family Courts," the Association said in a statement.
The lawyers' body also said they are consulting the Co-ordination Committee of All District Court Bar Associations of Delhi and are contemplating to go on strike in all the six district complexes in the national capital.
As per a recent notification of Delhi government, the Lieutenant Governor, in consultation with the Delhi High Court, had notified the establishment of "one Family Court each for Central District at Tis Hazari Court Complex, East and North East Districts at Vishwas Nagar Family Court Complex, one Family Court for Shahdara District at Karkardooma Court Complex and two Family Courts for West District at Tis Hazari Court Complex..."
The lawyers said they met Delhi High Court Chief Justice N V Ramana and he sought a report from the District Judge (incharge) over the issue.
They said there is enough vacant space in Karkardooma Court complex as several rooms are vacant and Family Courts can be set up there. There is no need for moving out to any other premises, they added.
