: A lawyers' forum has demanded the arrest of an inspector who allegedly roughed up one of them and used abusive language when he went to meet him with his clients with regard to a case.
Mangaluru Bar Association has demanded the arrest of inspector T D Nagaraj, who was been suspended for allegedly misbehaving with the lawyer who gone to the station on July 30 with his clients.
The officer had allegedly assaulted and used abusive language against the lawyer over an issue and then pushed him inside the lock-up, snatched his mobile phone and his gold chain.
Other lawyers who came to know of this staged a protest before the demonstration that day, following which Nagaraj was suspended and a case registered against him under non-bailable sections of IPC.
Bar Association president S P Chengappa told reporters here yesterday that the lawyers would intensify their stir if Nagaraj was not arrested within three days. They also plan to go for a state-wide stir after discussions with Aassociations of other districts and Karnataka Bar Council, he said.
"A delegation of lawyers will meet police commissioner S Murugan on Monday, seeking action against Nagaraj, whose behaviour towards a lawyer discharging his duty as a professional led to the incident," Chengappa said.
The lawyer has been hospitalised.
Nagaraj has filed a counter complaint against the advocate, charging him with obstructing him from discharging his duties, police said.
