Lawyers observe strike in dist courts, to resume work tmw

The lawyers of all six district courts in the national capital today observed a day-long strike to protest the alleged misconduct of some judges.
The advocates will resume work tomorrow, Jaiveer Singh Chauhan, Secretary General of the coordination committee of Delhi bar associations, said, adding that the decision was taken after a meeting with the Delhi High Court Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal.
"The Acting Chief Justice assured us that appropriate action would be taken against erring judges," Chauhan said.
He said that Justice Mittal has assured them that she will personally visit the courts and speak to judges over how to behave with litigants and advocates.

Delhi Judicial Service Association (DJSA), however, condemned the strike, saying the allegations of misconduct and corruption were "baseless".
"We unanimously resolve that judges remain an easy target for those who wish to asperse the reputation of a judge out of grudge or disgruntling from the court's order," DJSA President Rajesh Malik said.

A resolution adopted by the DJSA said the Bar "must respect the judicial order of the court".
"It is the statutory obligation of the Bar Association to respect the judicial order of the court to maintain high standards of professional conduct," it said.
The lawyers at the Tis Hazari Court had gone on a strike on October 11 to protest the alleged "rude behaviour" of a magistrate which was extended to all other district courts - Patiala House, Karkardooma, Saket, Dwarka and Rohini.

Chauhan claimed the Bar has got an assurance that a strict and appropriate action would be taken against the magistrate of Tis Hazari Court and other erring judges.
