Lawyers stage sit-in to protest quashing of FIR
Press Trust of India Ghaziabad Lawyers of Tahsil Compound Sangh today staged a sit-in protesting against the Siani Gate police for quashing an FIR of molestation and loot lodged by sangh's former secretary Pankaj Sharma.
Sharma, an advocate, said on Diwali night he, along with one of his female colleague, came to his chamber in the tehsil compound, when five assailants from his native Pilkhuwa Town in Hapur district of Uttar Pradesh arrived at the chamber and molested his female colleague.
All the five assailants thrashed him when he resisted their advances, Sharma said, adding that they snatched "my gold chain and fled the spot". An FIR was lodged by him at Siani Gate police station.
Siani Gate police station SHO Ashok Sishodia said the incident was reported to police by the advocate on the next day i.E. October 24 and a cognisable case was registered under sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 394 (Voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery) of the IPC.
But during investigation it was found that on the night of Diwali, both the parties were summoned to Pilkhuwa police station upon a complaint by one of the alleged assailants. As per records, both the parties were present at Pilkhuwa police station till 9:30 PM, the SHO said.
The advocate and his female colleague never came to their tehsil chamber for Diwali Poojan on the day, the SHO said. The investigating officer quashed the FIR for want of evidence, Sishodia added.
