Lawyers strike affects proceedings at Patiala House courts

The proceedings in cases including 2G spectrum and 2008 Delhi serial blasts were today affected by the day-long strike called by lawyers at the Patiala House district courts here against Delhi government's decision to relocate court complex without having proper infrastructure.
The New Delhi Bar Association (NDBA) had called for the strike opposing the "unilateral cabinet decision" to relocate the court complex from Patiala House to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg here without having provision for chambers for lawyers and other infrastructure.
"There was a complete strike today at Patiala House Courts complex. We oppose the government's decision to relocate the court complex without having provision for chambers for lawyers and other infrastructure," NDBA's President Rajiv Jai said.

The lawyers body had said the executive committee had met Union Law Minister Kapil Sibal on September 20 and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on September 21 and submitted written representations pointing out the flaws and insufficient infrastructure in carrying out the cabinet decision.
The Delhi government had recently approved a long-pending proposal to shift the Patiala House district courts to a new complex at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg in central Delhi which will cost Rs 306 crore.
