Judicial work at the Indore Bench of Madhya Pradesh High Court and other courts in the district was crippled today with lawyers joining the nationwide strike called to protest the police action on advocates in Jaipur and Chandigarh.
The strike was called by Bar Council of India and supported by the state-level associations of advocates.
Lawyers affiliated to the MP High Court and district associations organised separate demonstrations in the court premises demanding action against policemen who baton-charged lawyers during their protest in Jaipur and Chandigarh recently.
Arvind Yadav, President of District Bar Association, who led a protest, demanded that the Centre bring a law to protect advocates.
About 5,000 lawyers boycotted the courts, he claimed.
Lawyers later submitted a memorandum, listing their demands, to the Divisional Commissioner of Indore.
