Judicial work in the Jammu and Kashmir High court and subordinate courts in Srinagar was today paralysed due to a strike called by a lawyers' body protesting an assault on one of its senior members.
The members of High Court Bar Association (HCBA) launched their one-day protest against a "murderous assault" on Mohammad Abdullah Pandit and pressed for stern action against those responsible.
In view of the strike, lawyers abstained from work in the High Court, Saddar Court and other subordinate courts here, officials said.
The HCBA alleged that some persons attacked Pandit while he was parking his vehicle outside the office chamber Sunday following an altercation between them. The victim suffered serious head injuries in the incident, they said.
An FIR was lodged against the accused at the Khanyar police station of which two have been arrested.
Some of the accused are still at large, the HCBA said and demanded a thorough probe by police into the incident.
