The CPI(M)-led LDF government's objective is to make Kerala a 'toll-free' state, public Works Minister G Sudhakaran said here today.
As part of this plan, levy collection at three toll booths in the Airport-Nedumbasssery stretch in Kochi would be stopped by October 31, he said during the Question Hour in the state Assembly.
"Tolls will be stopped. LDF government stands for a toll-free state not for tolls," the minister said.
He also said the PWD would take steps to erect boards, displaying the number of vehicles passing through toll booths and the total amount collected as fees.
On the department's initiatives to ensure good quality roads in the state, Sudhakaran said quality control labs have already started functioning at the local and district levels for examining the condition of roads.
Frequent quality check of roads as per the manual and its periodical maintenance were being carried out, he added.
