In a statement here, LDF convener Vaikom Viswan said the families of the nurses were deeply worried as their information was that the nurses were living in great hardship and even scared of their safety.
Their situation was further complicated as the visa of many of them were about to expire and most of them had not received salaries for the last few months, he said.
If they were to be brought back home, strong intervention of the Centre was essential, Viswan said.
The parents of nurses had held a meeting here and urged Chandy to take up the matter with the Centre.
They said they expected the state and Centre would work together for the safe return of their kin, as in the case of evacuation of 46 nurses from Tikrit in Iraq earlier this month.
