At the Multi Commodity Exchange, lead for delivery in January rose by Rs 3.15, or 1.92 per cent, to Rs 167.40 per kg, in a business turnover of 1,002 lots.
Similarly, the metal for delivery in February edged higher by Rs 2.90 paise, or 1.76 per cent, to Rs 167.90 per kg in 203 lots.
Market analysts said fresh positions created by traders amid upsurge in demand from battery-makers in the spot market and a firming trend overseas led to the rise in lead prices.
