Taking positive cues from the global market and rising demand at domestic spot markets, lead prices were up by 0.77 per cent to Rs 136.70 per kg in futures trade in evening session today, as speculators created fresh positions.
The exchange opened for the evening session as it remained closed in the morning for 'Maharashtra Day'.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, lead for delivery in May month rose by Rs 1.05 or 0.77 per cent to Rs 136.70 per kg in business turnover of 396 lots.
Similarly, the metal for delivery in June contracts traded higher by Re 1 or 0.73 per cent to Rs 137.10 per kg in 13 lots.
Market analysts attributed the rise in lead futures to a firm global trend where lead climbed to the highest level in more than seven months as inventories extended a drop to a five-year low.
Meanwhile, lead for delivery in three months surged 1 per cent to USD 2,131 a metric tonne, and earlier reached USD 2,153, the highest since September 9 at the London Metal Exchange.
