A court in Goa on Thursday rejected the anticipatory bail application filed by the brother of a state minister Mauvin Godinho in connection with the alleged suicide of MGP leader Prakash Naik.
Principal district and sessions judge Irshad Agha rejected the bail plea of Wilson Godinho, a businessman, who was named by Naik in a WhatsApp message little before he allegedly shot himself at his residence on January 17.
The Old Goa police had registered a case against Wilson and one Tahir on January 19, after Naik's family filed a formal complaint against them.
Wilson is the elder brother of State Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho.
The district court had on Tuesday heard the arguments for pre-arrest bail filed by Wilson.
Rohit Bras D'Sa, who appeared on behalf of Godinho, said his client would appeal against the order before Goa bench of the Bombay High Court.
"Mere mention of his name in WhatsApp message does not make him an accused in the case. We will file an appeal in the high court," he said.
