A resolution has been adopted today by the leaders of village council, NGOs and political parties, demanding immediate commencement of peace talks between the state government and Hmar People's Convention (Democratic) militants.
The resolution was adopted at a function, held at Vanbawng village to celebrate the 30th anniversary of signing of the historic Mizo Peace Accord yesterday, a press release issued by the village council said.
The meeting deliberated on the quest for peace in the insurgency-hit Sinlung Hill Development Council area in the north-eastern part of the state adjoining Manipur.
They also demanded the state government and the HPC(D) to reach amicable solution to Hmar problem.
Negotiations between the state government and HPC(D) leadership fizzled out after a deadlock was reached on the issue of extension of the period of suspension of operations in August 2013.
The outfit has been demanding a separate autonomous district council comprising the north-eastern part of Mizoram adjoining Manipur.
