Leaders are like teabags, only when you put them in hot water you get to know their real strength says professional motivational speaker and leadership coach, Prakash Iyer in his new book.
"The secret of Leadership" published by Penguin Books talks of leadership mantras not in a cliche business book style but as a self-help book with parables from all over the world to demonstrate what makes for effective professional and personal leadership.
"A teabag is the perfect example of how leaders are and how leadership should be. For example, What counts is what's inside the teabag, the real flavour comes only when teabags get into hot water, teabags work, never mind where they are in the cup, sometimes one teabag is not enough..!! When we think about all these aspects we can relate them with leaders too, Iyer said after launching his book at the Landmark store here.
The book's forward has been written by cricketer Rahul Dravid who according to Iyer made a better vice captain than a captain.
"Dravid helped Ganguly be a very good captain. I believe in leadership the role of a vice captain is as important as that of the captain to complement each other's efforts and skills and help the team," said Iyer.
Recalling an experience from his professional career, the author said, "Once a senior person in my organisation had forged some accounts and as he was a very good friend and a good professional I was anxious to know what the company's decision against him would be."
"To my surprise, he was sacked as per the company's policy and it is then I learned that the lesson of leadership is not something which can be taught in a classroom. You learn them from little things which remain unattended," he said.
