Leak in a barrage downstream of Mettur; plugged

: One of the four barrages downstream of Mettur broke and water started leaking out, but authorities acted on a timely alert to plug the leak, officials said.
There are four barrages downstream of Mettur and four downstream of Bhavani, totalling eight. Each barrage is of 30 MW capacity
The four barrages downstream of Mettur are at Chekkanur, Nerinjipet, Ammapet and Kuthaikalmedu.
The leak occurred in the shutters of Chekkanur barrage this evening, they said, adding that engineers were alerted and the leak plugged.
