LED bulbs scam: Raj ACB raids PHED office, seizes documents

Rajasthan Anti-Corruption Bureau today carried out searches at the Public Health Engineering Department office here in connection with the LED bulbs scam running into crores of rupees.
The ACB sleuths seized several "incriminating" documents and bills from the administrative unit of the PHED, which purchased LED bulbs by at an unreasonably high price.
PHED officials have been asked to furnish "complete" details of the purchase of LED bulbs and other equipment, Additional SP (ACB) Bajrang Singh Shekhawat said.
LED bulbs were procured "directly by the district circles through central store", he quoted the PHED officials as saying.
"We have asked PHED headquarters to provide documents pertaining to the purchase of LED bulbs," Shekhawat said.
The ACB had yesterday raided the Central Purchase Store in Malviya Nagar and initiated probe in the "massive irregularities" in the purchase of LED bulbs.
A preliminary probe has revealed that LED bulbs were supplied at "inflated rates". An 8-watt bulb costing Rs 70 to Rs 80 was purchased for Rs 1,000.
