At the fifth Board meeting of TNREDCL held under the chairmanship of Arvind Kumar, Secretary, Energy, it was proposed to distribute LED bulbs duly replacing incandescent bulbs, a state government release said.
Under the project, each household will be provided two LED bulbs of 9 watts each.
Eighty per cent power could be saved if conventional lights are replaced with LED lamps, it said.
As energy saving will be quite substantial, the board has decided to distribute two numbers of 9 watt LED bulb to each household on exchange of two numbers of 60 watt incandescent bulbs to save power consumed.
"LED Bulbs will be distributed as a part of the Demand Side Efficient Lighting Programme (DELP) being implemented to save electricity consumption," it added.
