Traditional bulbs as street lights will make way for LEDs in municipal bodies of Bihar over the next two years, Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Modi said today.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed in this regard between Bihar Urban Development and Housing Department and Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL), which has been nominated to execute the project in the state.
"All the street lights being illuminated by traditional bulbs in municipal bodies- municipal corporations, councils and panchayats - will be replaced with LED bulbs under 'Street Lighting National Programme'," Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Modi said.
The programme would help save electricity "worth several crores of rupees" in all the municipal bodies' areas in the state, he said, adding, the scheme will be implemented in a phase-wise manner across the state.
Central Control and Monitoring System (CCMS) will oversee the power supply to the street lights, and it would be operated through remote switch to turn the lights on and off at a particular time.
