Trinamool Congress supporters in the area staged a demonstration outside Dutt's residence alleging that CPI(M) was indulging in "dirty politics" and demanded that the delegation leave the area.
In what is said to be a move to cash in on the alleged dissension within the Trinamool Congress, the Left front delegation met family members of the slain TMC activist.
Leader of the Opposition in state Assembly Suryakanta Mishra, who led the delegation, said Tapan Dutt was killed by his own party workers due to his participation in a movement against filling up of water bodies in the area.
Mishra alleged that a minister in the Mamata Banerjee ministry was allegedly involved in the killing of Dutt, "but his name has been excluded from the police report".
Alleging that unidentified callers were "constantly warning" Dutt's family to "withdraw police cases", Mishra said, "The incident points to worsening of the law and order situation in West Bengal".
Dutt's wife Pratima alleged, according to Mishra, that her requests to meet the chief minister as well as the state's law minister were turned down.
"None from the party (Trinamool Congress) contacted me and my family ever since my husband was killed," she said.
