The Left Front took out a rally in Kolkata on the issue of price rise and the Centre's decision to impose 0.5 per cent cess on all taxable services.
"The people of India are already reeling under the pressure
of price rise... And the Centre has again decided to impose a 0.5 per cent cess on all taxable services. It will further increase the price rise. The BJP government is totally taking up policies which are completely anti-poor, anti-people," Mishra, Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly, said during the rally here.
All services, including air travel, telephony, eating out and banking will become expensive from November 15 as the government a few days back decided to impose a 0.5 per cent cess on all taxable services to fund the Swachh Bharat programme.
The additional cess would be over and above the 14 per cent Service Tax rate which is already being levied and may yield the government an additional about Rs 400 crore during the remainder of the current fiscal.
