Young left-handed opener Rohan Banerjee was one of the notable inclusions in the 14-member Bengal squad that was named today.
The selection committee meeting, which was convened by Sourav Ganguly, announced the squad to be led by Laxmi Ratan Shukla, while two more players will be picked from the U-23 Bengal A side that will take on Chhattisgarh in Col C K Nayudu tournament from December 1-4.
While Rohan, 25, who has played 19 first-class matches, since making his debut in 2008 made another entry into the Bengal team after staying out for a year, Sayan Shekhar Mondal was left out after a not-so-good showing in the recently concluded Vijay Hazare one-day tournament.
Satyabrata Murmu has been picked as the reserve wicketkeeper with Shreevats Goswami as the first choice. Former India player and Bengal coach Ashok Malhotra said that it's the best possible side that the selectors could pick.
"With four pacers and two spinners, it's the best possible side keeping in mind the away match in Baroda. Hope we will do well this season. We finished in last four last season," said Malhotra.
Bengal lost a close semi-final against Karnataka, which eventually defended their title, in the Vijay Hazare tournament and Malhotra was not unhappy with the team's performance.
