Opposition leader Surjya Kanta Mishra today threatened to launch a bigger movement against ruling Trinamool Congress, if the attacks on CPI-M activists did not stop within a month, while the government hit back by saying that the Marxists would not be let to unleash terror.
"The rule of law has to be established in the state within a month. We were attacked at nine places by the TMC. If it (attack) continues, we will launch a bigger movement with the people. Red flag will not bow down . We will be on the streets to resist," Mishra said while addressing a meeting at Mayureswar in Birbhum district.
The leader warned Chief Minister Mamata Bannerjee that they would launch a movement bigger than the 'Nabanna Abhijaan' agitation in August.
On August 27, farmers belonging to the CPI-M's peasant wing and other Left parties had organised 'Nabanna Abhijaan', and marched towards the state secretariat, which had turned violent.
Mishra, also the state secretary of the CPI-M and a politburo member, urged partymen to strengthen the organisation and exhorted them to reach out to those who have sided with the BJP.
Criticising the Modi-led Central government, he alleged that it wanted to establish 'Hindu Rashtra' and said "we will be on the streets to resist them too".
TMC leader and state urban development minister Firhad Hakim, on the other hand, said that the government would not tolerate if the CPI-M tried to bring back the days of terror.
"Our party workers were beaten up and injured. They are trying to create terror. Instead of launching democratic movement, they are creating drama saying they are attacked. The people will not believe it", he said.
