Left parties have joined hands with Samajwadi Party and JD(S) to contest Rajasthan assembly polls later this year.
"In Rajasthan, CPI(M), CPI, SP and JD(S) have formed a 'morcha' (alliance) to fight the assembly electons. They are holding a convention on July 21 in Jaipur," CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash Karat told PTI here.
When contacted, he said Rajasthan unit of CPI(M), along with the state units of the other three parties, were jointly organising the convention which would also be addressed by Politburo member Brinda Karat.
The state-level convention was in line with Left parties' thinking of forging a formation of non-Congress, non-BJP parties.
The four Left parties, at a political convention here on July one, had appealed to all democratic and secular forces to unite on the basis of an 'alternative' policy platform against the 'anti-people, neo-liberal' measures pursued both by Congress and BJP.
As they virtually launched the campaign for the next general elections claiming no national-level alliance was possible without them, Left parties have maintained there was no real difference between Congress and BJP on policy issues.
