The Delhi government today warned that legal action will be taken against people found making false declarations to get pension and that their names would be struck off the list of beneficiaries.
The Social Welfare department, which is linking the Aadhar numbers of pensioners with their accounts, said that instances have been discovered where individuals were drawing pension from relevant heads of the municipal corporations as well as the Delhi government.
"It has been noticed by the Department of Social Welfare that some people have been making false claims on pensions by producing inaccurate information about their Aadhar cards, residence proof, proof of income, etc.
"The Department has warned that if any information is found to be incorrect, the pension of the beneficiary will be cancelled and legal action will be taken," an official statement said.
The warning came within days of the government forming a panel to verify beneficiaries of pension schemes for aged, disabled, and widows under schemes of the three civic bodies, before considering their formal takeover from the MCDs.
The department also urged the pensioners, who may have submitted inaccurate documents, to immediately contact the nearest pension office and submit the required genuine documents or the Aadhar number to stake claim to their pension.
Yesterday, the Aam Aadmi Party demanded a CBI probe into alleged irregularities in disbursement of pension by the three civic bodies of the national capital and alleged that BJP councillors were involved in it.
