Appropriate legal action would be initiated against the group of MLAs, who allegedly assaulted a policeman at Maharashtra Assembly building today, a senior police official said.
Assistant Police Inspector (API) Sachin Suryavanshi, attached to the Worli police station, was allegedly beaten up by a group of MLAs including Kshitij Thakur (Independent), Ram Kadam (MNS), Rajan Salvi (Shiv Sena), Pradeep Jaiswal (Independent), among others, on the first floor of the Vidhan Bhavan, according to the reports.
"Suryavanshi underwent medical examination and his statement is being recorded. An appropriate legal action would be taken against those involved in the assault," the IPS officer said.
"CCTV footages would be scanned to ascertain which of the MLAs assaulted the victim," the officer added.
If any criminality is found in the case, an FIR would be registered at Marine Drive police station.
The injured policeman was first taken to St George Hospital and was later shifted to J J hospital for further medical examination.

Proceedings of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly were also stalled following the shocking incident.
The vehicle of Kshitij Thakur was allegedly stopped yesterday by Suryavanshi on the Bandra-Worli Sea Link when the MLA was on his way to attend the Legislative Assembly session.
Thakur was reportedly fined because his vehicle had exceeded the speed limit. There was an altercation between the legislator and the policeman, during which the latter allegedly misbehaved with Thakur.
This morning, Thakur, who represents the Vasai Assembly constituency moved a breach of privilege notice against Suryavanshi and gave a detailed account of the policeman's "misbehaviour."
Angered by Thakur's information, members cutting across party lines demanded the policeman's suspension.
Suryavanshi was seated in the visitor's gallery at that time.
Some of the MLAs saw Suryavanshi in the visitors' gallery making "provocative" gestures with his hand and was looking down at the Assembly members. They caught hold of Suryavanshi right at the entrance to the visitors gallery on the first floor and thrashed him.
