Legal metrology approval must for packaged drinking water
Press Trust of India Kolkata BIS and ISI marks will not be sufficient for any packaging drinking water unit as they must also bear the seal from the legal metrology, Consumer Affairs Minister Sadhan Pande today said.
"The seal of legal metrology is must beside ISI and BIS marks. The units will be sealed if all parameters are not met," the minister said.
Reports of contaminated packaged drinking water were found in examination by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation in the wake of large scale water contamination in southern part of the city recently.
Pande blamed additional district magistrates of the respective districts for "failure" on their part to take action on the illegal or fake packaged drinking water units in the state.
"The additional district magistrates are responsible if there are any illegal packaged drinking water units are operating. Already district level task force under the chairmanship of one additional district magistrate is already in place since November 2017 to deal with illegal drinking water," Pande told reporters outside the Assembly.
