Legendary bhajan singer Juthika Roy hospitalised

Legendary bhajan singer Juthika Roy, who had Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru among her fans, has been hospitalised in a serious condition after multiple health ailments, family sources said today.
The 92-year-old artiste who was awarded the Padma Shri in 1972 is suffering from schizophrenia, Parkinson's disease and sepsis besides a urinary tract infection.
Last week she was admitted to Ramakrishna Mission Seva Pratisthan where doctors said her condition is serious but they are monitoring her health.
Popular for her 'Meerabai bhajans', Roy had recorded her first album at the tender age of 12 and had famous rebel poet Kazi Nazrul Islam as her mentor.
She sang for a number of Hindi and Bengali films and became very famous during her time as Gandhi and Nehru both were known to be great fans of her melodious voice.
